🚨 BREAKING NEWS: Courage Close to Being Sold to Marc Lasry
Sportico reports the former Milwaukee Bucks owner bidding for a controlling stake based on a $108m valuation
Hi all! Just sending a quick note that you’ll want to dive into the following Sportico article from Kurt Badenhausen, Eben Novy-Williams and Scott Soshnick, reporting that former Milwaukee Bucks owner Marc Lasry is likely nearing a purchase of the Courage.
He’s reportedly buying in at about 60%, with the Courage being valued at $108m for the sale, easily their highest valuation to date. Steph Yang at The Athletic adds more context for sale figures in her coverage here. By way of recent comparison, Sportico reports that Lasry had been interested in Angel City FC, which eventually sold to Willow Bay and her husband, Disney CEO Bob Iger, for about $250m. Angel City is generally considered to be the most valuable team in the league based on brand recognition and support, so you can do your own math from there and decide how you feel about our valuation.
With a sale like this, many questions arise: What vision is Lasry bringing in for the team? What might be the long-term plans for facilities improvement, a frequent need cited by staff? Or even keeping the team in Cary? Or NC altogether? The Sportico article noted he was interested in both Angel City FC and Seattle Reign, so a move doesn’t necessarily sound imminent.
So, we have more questions than answers at the moment. We’ll stay on coverage for this and keep you posted.
Best, Trevor
